Sierra Commons

Sierra Commons is a non-profit organization focused on promoting proven strategies for job creation within western Nevada County, California.

Sierra Commons:

• provides education, research, tools, and training to further the development of new and emerging locally-based small businesses and non-profit organizations;
• creates employment opportunities for individuals within western Nevada County communities;
• enhances the economic independence of these communities to enable them to attain a sustainable existence.

Sierra Commons develops and implements education and training programs designed to meet the needs of new, emerging, and struggling business owners and nonprofit organizations. These programs are charitable in nature. In our economically depressed service area, over 50% of our educational program participants were unemployed or underemployed prior to becoming entrepreneurs, with Sierra Commons’ help.

Sierra Commons also hosts a variety of small and expanding businesses and non-profits at its downtown Nevada City office. This office space is maintained for use by both Sierra Commons’ programs and its tenants. Sierra Commons uses revenues from office space rental to provide a long-term, sustainable foundation for our educational programs.
