Sierra Commons develops and implements education and training programs designed to meet the needs of new, emerging, and struggling business owners and nonprofit organizations. These programs are charitable in intent and design. We offer them to enhance the economic sustainability of Western Nevada County by fostering successful practices among Nevada County entrepreneurs.
Why We Educate
| Our educational efforts are built on the belief that educating local small businesses and non-profit organizations in proven, job-creating business practices improves quality of life for everyone in Nevada County. Education is the key component of our strategy to create jobs in Nevada County. What We Offer
Business Ignitor Courses. These courses are a multi-week series of seminars targeted at specific clusters, such as brand-new micro-enterprises and struggling small businesses attempting a restart. The seminars are taught by established professionals and include, but are not limited to, information on business plan creation, marketing, legal, and incorporation issues.
Public Workshops and Networking Events. In addition to focused courses like the Business Ignitor Course, Sierra Commons convenes a range of workshops, series and one-off educational and networking events, such as Tech Talks and Entrepreneurial Fairs.
Educator Collaboration. Sierra Commons works with local professionals in a business-relevant field to bring their expertise to a wider audience via our educational events and courses. Local experts with an interest in commercializing their knowledge delivery or in using their expertise as a promotional tool for their own business offerings are encouraged to take advantage of the educational platform offered by Sierra Commons. In this way, we leverage our position as a recognized provider of business education to maximize job creation.
Consulting and Referral Services. Sierra Commons offers referrals to local and regional economic development agencies, business support programs, and the like, in order to maximize local residents’ access to these existing service. We also offer free or reduced-cost mentoring to our members.
