SiGBA “Keep the Sierra Green” Presentation at Sierra Commons

Sierra Commons will host a presentation by the Sierra Green Building Association (SiGBA) on green business and ecological and economic sustainability as part of the “Keep the Sierra Green” Business Program.

This program is an important part of the SiGBA mission to “educate and promote environmental building and business practices for a sustainable lifestyle in the Sierra Nevada communities.” Anyone interested in sustainability and either becoming or supporting a green business is welcome to attend. PG&E/Sierra Business Council energy workshop

The Sierra Business Council, as part of its Sierra Nevada Energy Watch program, will be offering a FREE three day workshop on energy auditing skills for individuals/businesses in small and medium-sized commercial facilities (under 500kW).  The workshop will be held in Auburn from April 14-16.

According to the SBC website and the Workshop flier, the focus of the workshop is to help identify retrofitting opportunities that would help reduce overall energy usage and increase efficiency.  For businesses and entrepreneurs, this would mean a long-term reduction of energy costs and well as a lower carbon footprint. SEDCorp, a private, non-profit regional economic development organization, is continuing to ramp up its business training.  For those of you who were interested in, but missed out on, February’s SEDCorp Business classes, have no fear.  Due to high demand, SEDCorp will be offering Coryon Redd’s Internet Marketing classes in March. The Ant Farm Has Arrived

Commoners are some of the most productive people in Nevada County. Our ants are too. That’s why we have joined forces and are cohabiting with the Sierra Commons Ant Farm. We are currently looking for a queen ant and worker ants to fill the farm. Several ant membership levels are available. Please inquire in person.


Killer Job Opening at SYRCL

The Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival, based in Nevada City, CA, seeks a new Festival Director to lead and implement this dynamic program of the award-winning watershed advocacy group, SYRCL. Now in its 8th year, Wild & Scenic has become the largest film festival of its kind in North America, while evolving from a single event to a multi-faceted program of SYRCL. Speaker Series summary/photos

Last Thursday, Sierra Commons hosted Barry Friedman for the second installment of the Speaker Series. The night was a fantastic success, as Barry gave an inspirational presentation to a “sold-out” audience.
Drawing from his own experiences, he shared some of his personal lessons learned and gave an emotional call-to-arms, encouraging those in attendance to pursue their passions and dreams as entrepreneurs. Check out the photos below… (more…)


Great turnout @ the Chris Duccini Art Exhibit

Last Sunday, after Nevada City’s Mardi Gras parade, Sierra Commons hosted local artist, Chris Duccini, and several of his works of art for our second art exhibit. Several dozen people turned out to check out his paintings, many of whom brought their children and families. There were food platters, wine, music (streaming from Pandora and even some live music, the latter provided by two local musicians, a violinist and guitarist). Check out the photos below… (more…)

Come to Sierra Commons  on February 14th.  The opening will be from 3:30 to 6 pm at Sierra Commons, where Chris’ art has been gracing the walls for several weeks.  Come meet the artist and have a few refreshments.  You may want to check out the parking lot at the Stonehouse before the opening for some artist-in-action action.  Here are a few examples and a brief description of his work. . .
