According to an article on YubaNet, Nevada County currently leads every other county in California with 33% of its population listed on Donate Life California’s tissue and organ donor registry (versus the statewide average of 26%). Yet another statistical representation of Nevada County’s bleeding hearts. Driven by people like the ones in our own Nevada County, Donate Life California now boasts a total of 6 million citizens on its donor registry, making it the largest donor registry in the United States.
This incredible statistic follows a wake of other incredible statistics released recently regarding Nevada County, including one published by Environment California, showing Nevada County as the leading city in California with 18.8% solar roofs per household. Nevada County also has one of the highest per capita rates of nonprofit organizations, with 143 people per organization, which is significantly better than the statewide ratio of 227:1.
Despite all the organ donors, solar panels, and nonprofits, Nevada County’s unemployment rate still remains high at 11.4% (for December 2009). There is, one supposes, a small consolation in that this figure is slightly below the California state average of 12.1%. This, despite Nevada City’s staggering 17.2% unemployment rate.
