Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the  Stone House Hospitality Academy

Nevada County Community Business Services will be hosting The Small Business & Entrepreneur Fair in February, a benefit for Sierra Commons. This event will bring together local business services providers and the new businesses in Nevada County who need them. A great opportunity for local businesses to be seen, Sierra Commons will also be offering an opportunity for participants to record their own promotional video. Tables are available but space is limited. The event is produced by the Nevada County Community Business Services,  and will take place on February 10, 2011, downstairs at the Stonehouse in Nevada City. Holiday greetings to all of the Sierra Commons community.

As the new year approaches, we are gearing up for some big activities.  Of course there is the Business Ignitor Course starting January 19th, a new affinity group for programmers and technologists is forming and will hold its first meeting in January, we are getting a few new members, a local Toastmasters group is holding a mini-Toastmasters course, and in February, we will be holding a tabling event showcasing local products and services targeted towards entrepreneurs. Local entrepreneurs join forces with Sierra Commons to create new businesses in Nevada County

Sierra Commons held a pre-class informational meeting for its Business Ignitor Course, scheduled to begin Jan 19, 2011. The meeting, held Dec 9th at Sierra Commons offices in Nevada City, was opened by Sierra Commons’ Robert Trent and featured Ruth Schwartz and Barry Friedmen, two of the many business professionals who will contribute to the 6 week course in the new year, who provided motivation and inspiration. A question and answer session followed and participants registered for the course in January. (more…)

Free Business Ignitor Session Thursday 12/9

The introductory course will include an overview of the Business Ignitor Into Course content, our approach to helping startups, brief presentations by Business Ignitor presenters Ruth Schwartz and Barry Friedmen, and a Q & A Session.

City of Grass Valley Helping Local Entrepreneurs

The City of Grass Valley is actively helping create jobs in Nevada County by sponsoring the Sierra Commons Business Ignitor Course.   At a recent Grass Valley City Council economic development strategy meeting, members of the community and The Council looked at promising opportunities for strengthening Grass Valley’s economic foundation.  Among the many topics covered during the meeting, discussions surrounded infrastructure, manufacturing, financial “leakage” out of the county, tourism, and quality of life issues.
